Meet Laura Geftman, LCSW
The Therapist Helping Adults Heal Faster — For Those Who Want Results, Not Just Talk.
Based in Philadelphia • Serving PA, NY, NJ & FL Online
Feeling Overwhelmed, Drained, Stuck, or Disconnected? You’re Not Alone.
You’ve spent so much time taking care of everyone else—family, career, responsibilities—that somewhere along the way, you lost yourself. Maybe you’re constantly managing other people’s emotions while ignoring your own. Maybe you feel trapped in cycles of self-doubt, guilt, or emotional burnout. Or perhaps your relationships feel distant, and you’re not sure how to reconnect.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay stuck.
✨ Healing is possible.
I’m committed to creating a safe, affirming space where all identities, backgrounds, and experiences are honored. Your healing journey is personal and shaped by cultural, social, and systemic influences—and I’m here to support you every step of the way.
Why I Do This Work ❤️
I know what it’s like to feel responsible for everyone else, struggling to set boundaries without guilt. For years, I watched clients, colleagues, friends, and family carry the emotional weight of others while neglecting their own needs—I’ve been there, too. I saw how unresolved wounds from the past shape relationships, self-worth, and the ability to feel whole.
That’s why I’m passionate about helping people reclaim their emotional freedom, break free from unhealthy patterns, and build relationships that feel safe, authentic, and fulfilling.
Direct, Results-Driven Therapy
Therapy should be more than just a place to talk—it should be a powerful, transformative experience that creates real change. My approach is structured, direct, and deeply compassionate. Instead of spending years circling the same issues, I focus on helping you heal at the root level and create lasting results.
I use a blend of evidence-based methods, including:
🔸 Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART): A fast, effective way to process trauma, anxiety, and painful memories—without reliving them.
🔸 Internal Family Systems (IFS): This process teaches you to embrace all your parts, bring them into balance and find a sense of wholeness.
🔸 Harm Reduction | Risk Minimization: This substance use intervention aims to reduce the problematic effects of behaviors focusing on positive change without judgement, coercion, discrimination, or requiring abstinence as a precondition of support.
Who I Support
My practice is focused on helping:
🔹 People feeling disconnected from themselves and others – If you feel distant from your loved ones and struggle to connect, I help you rebuild emotional closeness and self-awareness.
🔹 Individuals stuck in emotional patterns from the past – If you keep reliving old wounds or falling into the same cycles, I provide tools to help you break free and heal.
🔹 Those carrying quiet anxiety or sadness – If you feel weighed down without understanding why, I help you uncover the root causes and find relief.
🔹 People haunted by past regrets and painful memories – If thoughts of the past keep you up at night, I help you process and release them so you can move forward.
🔹 Individuals struggling with self-worth and inner criticism – If you constantly feel “not good enough,” I help you challenge those inner voices and reclaim confidence.
My Background & Experience
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Psychology from Boston University and a Master’s degree in Social Service from Bryn Mawr College. My clinical journey began with training at Hahnemann University Hospital and the Council for Relationships, where I developed a strong foundation in mental health care.
I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including as a Drug & Alcohol Specialist at Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia, a non-profit healthcare center dedicated to serving the LGBTQ+ community. From there, I transitioned into private practice, where I’ve been helping individuals and couples heal from trauma, strengthen relationships, and overcome emotional barriers.
Beyond clinical work, I’ve expanded my reach by developing programming, providing healthcare marketing, and producing psychoeducational content for organizations like Promises Austin and Talkspace. I’m also the founder of Calm, Cool & Collected—a collective focused on educating mental health professionals and clients about the intersection of cannabis, CBD, and mental health. My work now includes supporting DOT employees through SAP evaluations related to cannabis use.
My background is a unique blend of psychotherapy, healthcare marketing, and content production. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in advertising at some of New York’s most notable agencies, including Young & Rubicam and McCann Erickson, where I managed high-profile accounts like Coca-Cola, Lowe’s, Mastercard, and Microsoft. That experience sharpened my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and creatively—a skill I now use to help clients navigate mental health challenges.
FEATURED IN:
Laura quickly became my go-to resource and sounding board for many personal struggles. She creates a safe space for clients to vent and be vulnerable without judgement. She asks probing questions in a way that makes you think and when asked for advice, will help you create an action plan that feels constructive and not cumbersome. When I was recently faced with a crisis, she went above and beyond to support me through it. I truly don’t know how I could’ve navigated it without her. She’s smart, professional and cares deeply about the work she does which comes across in each and every session. - MV

When I’m not in the office…
When I’m not working with clients, you can usually find me unwinding with yoga, hunting for treasures at thrift shops, kayaking through peaceful waters, dancing it out to some live music, or chasing down the perfect sunset picture.
I’m always looking for my next adventure, whether it’s traveling to new places or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen- I’m even getting better at cooking every meal, every day. I also take my title of “Best Dog Aunt Ever” very seriously—it’s been awarded by more than a few proud pet parents.
Music, art, and exploring the outdoors help me recharge and stay grounded, so I can show up fully for my clients. Taking time to reconnect with myself allows me to bring fresh energy, creativity, and focus to the work I love—helping people heal, grow, and create lasting change.
